TSC salary changes for promoted teachers will have to take longer before changes are effected on their pay slips. This follows TSC’s recent promotion of teachers to various job groups and administrative positions.
Following the interviews that were conducted in October 2025, the commission issued posting letters to 21,383 teachers to various schools.
Despite these teachers taking up their roles in their stations, they have not yet received even a penny in their payslips. However, there are a few teachers those in administrative positions and about to retire who have been factored by the commission previous months.
Last week, the commission requested school heads to submit data of those teachers who have not received their salaries or whose grades have not changed for consideration.
The commission is struggling to pay its employees due to huge pending bills including majority of teachers who were posted as interns in January this year. Another group of teachers who have not received their dues from the commission are those who were employed on replacement in January this year.
Those who have not received their dues from commission should remain hopeful as the government has initiated a supplementary budget to cushion key sectors like education.
Information from Teachers Service Commission, TSC insiders state that promoted teachers should expect their new salaries earliest July after the budget effecting their new job grades.
This year, the commission is likely to promote a significant number of teachers following the president’s commitment where he pledged to raise the number of promotion vacancies from 25,000 to 50,000 every year.
The president pledged this while addressing a delegation of teachers led by union officials in state house last year where he assured teachers that he will ensure that the commission receives Sh 2 billion annually up from the initial 1 billion that saw only 25.000 teachers being promoted.
While appearing parliament, TSC acting CEO Eveline Mitei presented an estimated budget of Ksh 422 billion for consideration in the next financial year.
While breaking down this budget estimates, Mitei stated that Ksh 7.2 billion will go to conversion of 20,000 Junior school interns, Ksh 2 billion for promotions and Ksh 16.5 billion will go for teachers’ medical cover.
