First-year students who missed the 2026 inter-university transfer window can breathe a sigh of relief after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) revealed that they can still proceed with seeking a transfer.
KUCCPS clarified transfer options available for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, following the closure of the 2026 inter-institutional transfer window.
According to the placement agency, those who were left out remain eligible to seek an inter-institutional transfer in 2026 and/or 2027.
“If they sat for KCSE in 2025, they are eligible for transfer this year, 2026, and/or next year 2027,” KUCCPS said.
The clarification followed queries from students who missed the 2026 window but still wanted to transfer their courses or institutions.
The response means students from the 2025 KCSE cohort who missed the current transfer window may still have an opportunity to seek a change of institution in a subsequent transfer cycle.
The 2026 inter-institutional transfer exercise was opened in July for students placed in universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
The window targeted students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 KCSE cohorts, with KUCCPS setting August 14, 2026, as the deadline for the transfer applications.
Following the closure of the application period, the placement service said it had begun processing of the transfer requests, which is still ongoing, assuring affected students that the letters will be generated once the process is complete.
“The processing of the transfer letters is ongoing. The letter will be generated automatically for download by the applicant through the student portal as soon as it is ready,” KUCCPS said in response to an affected student.
Students were therefore advised to regularly check their portal to confirm whether their transfer request was successful, as the letters will be sent directly through the student portal.
Once generated, applicants will be able to download the letters and wait for reporting day and report to their new institution.
The announcement comes even as 2025 KCSE students begin reporting to their respective institutions for the first year of study.
