The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has begun processing loans for first-time applicants, with applications now moving to the verification stage.

Applicants whose loans have reached Stage 2, listed as the verification stage, have been informed that their details have been received and are being processed as the board processes their applications.

The next step will be allocation, where successful applicants will be awarded their respective loan amounts before the funds are disbursed.

“Applicants are urged to remain patient as the HELB team continues working to process and disburse the loans as quickly as possible,” HELB said.

Students can track the progress of their applications without visiting HELB offices by using the board’s online portal, USSD service, or mobile application.

Applicants checking through the HELB portal can log into their accounts, access the dashboard and select “My Loans” to view their current application status.

Students who prefer using their mobile phones can also dial *642# and follow the prompts to check the status of their applications.

The verification stage means an applicant’s details have been received and are undergoing checks before the application proceeds to the allocation stage.

Once allocation is completed, successful applicants will be informed of the amount awarded before the loan moves towards disbursement.

First-time applicants who have not yet applied have also been encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible to avoid missing out on available funding.

Students who have already applied have been advised to regularly monitor their loan status through the available HELB channels for updates.

For applicants currently at Stage 2, the next key stage to watch is allocation, as HELB continues processing applications and preparing to disburse funds to successful applicants.
