The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has reminded students and other applicants that they can track the progress of their loan applications through its online portal, USSD service, and mobile application.

The update gives applicants a way to check the status of their funding without having to visit HELB offices or wait for further communication from the Board.

Applicants can check their status through the HELB portal by logging into their accounts and accessing their loan information.

Those who prefer using their mobile phones can dial *642# and follow the prompts to check their application status.

Applicants can also download the HELB mobile application, which allows them to access their loan information and monitor the progress of their applications from their phones.

The reminder comes as HELB continues to process applications for various education financing programmes targeting students and employed Kenyans pursuing further education.

Among the recently opened programmes is the 2026/27 Jielimishe Loan, which allows salaried learners to access up to Ksh600,000 to finance university, postgraduate, professional and other approved higher education programmes while continuing to work.

HELB has also opened applications for education loans of up to Ksh500,000 through the Civil Servants Training Revolving Fund, targeting employees in the national and county governments, the National Police Service and the Teachers Service Commission.

The different financing programmes are designed to help learners and employed Kenyans meet the cost of higher education, professional training and career advancement.

For students awaiting funding, the tracking services provide a quicker way to establish whether their application is still being processed, has progressed or requires further action.

HELB is urging applicants to make use of the available digital channels to keep track of their applications and stay informed about the progress of their funding.

With applications for different loan programmes ongoing, applicants can now check their status from wherever they are instead of relying solely on physical visits or waiting for updates.
